Details: James Edward Grindstaff, age 94, of Minneapolis, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 10th, 2014 at Roan Highland Nursing Center. A native of Avery County, he was the son of the late Jessie and Nola Hartley Grindstaff. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 32 years, Texie Stafford Grindstaff; his second wife also of 32 years, Pansy Thomas Grindstaff; son, JC Grindstaff; grandson, David Grindstaff and two brothers: Charlie and Carl Grindstaff. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and a prayer warrior for his family and community. He enjoyed hunting and farming.
Surviving are his daughters: Frances Fletcher and husband, Randall, of Minneapolis and Joy Sluder and husband, Jimmy, of Greeneville, TN; son, Bill Grindstaff and wife, Patsy, of Minneapolis; daughter-in-law, Peggy Grindstaff of Minneapolis; step-children: Tony English and wife, Lisa, of Lenoir, Peggy Yelton and husband, Bruce, of Roaring Creek and Danny English and wife, Jean, of Henson Creek; grandchildren: Todd Grindstaff and wife, Erin, Steven Grindstaff and wife, Amanda, Debbie Cornett and husband, David, Jimmy Fletcher and wife, Lyn, Amy Grindstaff, Brooke Carlyle and husband, Chris and Jimmy Sluder; great-grandchildren: Meg and Jay Fletcher, Matthew and Ethan Carlyle and Jayana Grindstaff; nieces: Louise Hughes and Roma Wilson. Several cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 12th in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Allen Laws will officiate. Burial will follow in the Minneapolis Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
