Tom Dewey Batchler, age 69, of Seven Mile Ridge, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at his home. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of Charlotte Hollifield Batchler of Seven Mile Ridge and the late Melvin Batchler, who passed away in 1985. Dewey was a U. S. Army Veteran during the Vietnam Era where he received a Purple Heart. He retired with Firestone Tires after 25 years of service and had also worked in Spruce Pine with Johnson Fleet. He loved hunting and fishing.
Surviving is his mother, Charlotte Hollifield Batchler of Seven Mile Ridge; two daughters: Teresa Hensley and husband, Robert, of Burnsville and Deborah Hinkle and husband, Cody, of Seven Mile Ridge; sister, Jewell Ross and husband, Carl, of Kings Mountain; brother, Clarence Batchler and wife, Lynda, of Blacksburg, SC; girlfriend, Doris Silvers of Burnsville; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, four nieces, one nephew and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Scott Buchanan will officiate. Military Honors will follow in the Burnette Cemetery conducted by the Sgt. E. L. Randolph, Chapter #57 DAV. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the services at the funeral home.
