Details: Ruby Jo (Mamie) Young Wilson completed her life journey on earth and went to be with her Lord and Savior in the John F. Keever Solace Center surrounded by her loving family and friends on August 13, 2014. She was born August 23, 1917 in Yancey County, NC, the daughter of the late Charlie and Lina Edge Young.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of
32 years, John Robert Wilson on December 19, 1972, sisters: Florence Burnett, Emma McKinney, Bid Autrey, Dora Huskins and brothers: Troy, George, Ed, Dock and Mills Young.
Ruby attended Mount Mitchell Baptist Church for 74 years and was dearly loved by her church family. She was a prayer warrior, spending her days and nights praying for everyone she knew.
She was a homemaker who was happiest when cooking for and feeding her family and friends. Every Monday night until her health prevented it, she insisted on feeding the entire Wilson clan. She loved to quilt and made every member of her family numerous beautiful quilts. Her vegetable and flower gardens provided a bounty to all with whom she came in contact. She had an incredible impact on so many and was loved by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are sons: Loki Wilson and wife Jarvis, Roby Wilson and wife Glenda, Randy Wilson and wife Regina and daughter Sue Forbes and husband Pastor Kenneth Forbes, her grandchildren: Lisa Whitson and husband Jeff, Kenny Wilson and wife Kim, Christy Wilson, Michael Wilson and wife Miranda, Brian Wilson and wife Tonia, Kyle Wilson, Ashley Gouge and husband Stephen.
She was blessed with 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Yancey Funeral Home on Friday August 15 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation with Pastor Forrest Westall officiating.
Grandson Kenny Wilson will honor Mamie with a special family tribute. Graveside services will be at Gragg Cementery in Busick on Saturday, August 16 at 11 am.
Ruby firmly believed in giving flowers to the living and it was her request, which the family wants to honor, that anyone who wants to buy flowers do so BUT send them to your spouse, your mother, your grandmother, your child, or someone in the nursing home or hospital.
The Wilson family would like to thank Hospice for the excellent care given to our beloved Mother.
