State Employees Credit Union Continuing Ed Scholarship Program

The State Employees Credit Union Foundation in 2012 established a Continuing Education Scholarship Program to help remove financial barriers for students seeking to gain new and/or upgrade current job-related skills.
This scholarship is available to assist students who enroll in certain Economic and Workforce Development Program classes at Mayland Community College. These programs include HVAC, Phlebotomy, Certified Nursing Assistant, Taxidermy and more.
“I am so grateful to have received a scholarship from State Employees Credit Union,” said Lisa Watson, a Certified Nursing Assistant Program graduate. “The reward not only helped with my tuition, required textbook, and TB test, but it has helped me get my other supplies such as scrubs, a watch, and shoes. Also to practice getting blood pressures perfect, a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff.
After I finish the CNA I class, I will have an array of employment opportunities. I am excited I will be able to work in the medical field while continuing my
education. I asked for someone to believe in me in my application for the scholarship, and SECU did, and because they have given me a chance, I can get to my dream faster. I am motivated and excited about my future! Thank you!”
Annually, the SECU Foundation will provide a total of 580 scholarships--- 10 scholarships at $750 each to all 58 community colleges.
The State Employees Credit Union Foundation scholarship is available to Mitchell, Avery, and Yancey County residents pending approval. Scholarship includes tuition, books, testing, materials and Career Readiness Class.
