Five Arrests made at a Driver License Check Point
In the early morning hours on March 26, the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office and Burnsville Police Department were conducting a drivers license check point on US 19E Bypass at the intersection of South Main Street.  During the check point deputies with the Sheriff’s Office arrested Cheyenne Lynn Penland,  Asim Devonne Nelson, Westley Aaron Williams, Douglas Preston Washington, and Travis Jermal Smith all of Asheville. 
Nelson was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, Carrying Concealed Weapon and Driving While License Revoked.  
Washington, Williams and Smith were charged with Possession of Firearm by Felon, Carrying Concealed Gun, Possess of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana. 
Penland was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. 
During the arrest it was discovered that all five individuals had committed Felony Larceny and Larceny of a Firearm at a residence in Mitchell County.  The Deputies recovered the stolen property and contacted Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office where charges were filed for Felony Larceny and Larceny of a Firearm.
