Clint Edward Pollard, Sr., 66, of Spruce Pine, NC, passed away on May 17, 2016.
Born in Hendersonville, NC, on December 10, 1949 to the late Leland E. Pollard and the late June Packard Pollard, Clint is survived by his wife, Kay Ellis Pollard, and the children he loved, Laura L. Singleton of Austin, TX; Clint E. (Katherine) Pollard, Jr of Marietta, GA; Kathleen C. (Joe) Wright of Simpsonville, SC; Sean (Stephanie) Hoppes of Goodlettsville, TN as well as the grandchildren he adored, Aidan and Tyler Singleton; Audrey, Reagan, Miller and Charlotte Pollard; Mackenzie and Brandon Gow and Makenzi and Layton Wright; Connor and Hayden Hoppes.
His surviving siblings are Lorraine (Don) Ahern of Mount Pleasant, SC; Theresa (Michael) Cauthen of Florence, SC; Jack (Beth) Pollard of Rome, GA; Lee Pollard of West Ossipee, NH; Mark (Linda) Pollard of Clemson, SC; and Tina (Rick) Manley of Abbeville, SC.
In addition to his loving family, Clint also leaves behind many beloved friends, business partners, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
After graduating from Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, SC, Clint entered the Navy and served in military intelligence during the Vietnam War. In 1975, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Clemson University. Clint then embarked on a successful corporate career with GTE/Verizon. Having committed his life to Christ as a young man, Clint eventually answered the call to service. In particular he was called to serve in prisons around the world as minister to the incarcerated and their families. After moving back to the mountains of North Carolina, Clint became deeply involved with Avery-Mitchell Correctional Institute and Mountainview Correctional Institute. In recent years, he was proud to serve Christ and the people of Western North Carolina as Editor of Blue Ridge Christian News.
Clint will be remembered for his participation in many political groups and activities as well as his commitment to supporting other local organizations including Mitchell County SafePlace, Hospice & Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, Shepherd’s Staff and Mitchell County Animal Rescue.
Clint will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 20, 2016, beginning at 5 p.m. at Bear Creek Baptist Church, 327 Bear Creek Church Rd., in the Ledger Community, Bakersville, NC.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Berry Chapel Baptist Church, 226 Chapel St., Spruce Pine, NC. Burial will follow at Harrell Cemetery at Harrell Hill Farm, Harrell Hill Rd, Bakersville, NC, with Sgt E. L. Randolph Chapter 57 DAV conducting graveside military honors.
