A man and a woman are accused of child abuse after officials discovered they kept an infant child locked in a cage.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and the social services department responded to a home in Mars Hill, on Wednesday regarding a child neglect complaint, when they found the child in the “self-made” cage upstairs.
The child was freed and detectives determined the infant was in the cage for at least 23 hours a day and only given minimal amounts of food each day, according to officials.
Haley Trantham and Vincent Lee II were arrested and each face two counts of child abuse charges. Trantham was also charged with possession of marijuana.
Both are currently in the Madison County Detention Facility.
