Charters of Freedom Monument Planned for Bakersville

Plans are underway for Mitchell County to have a Charters of Freedom Monument on the lawn at the County Administration Building in Bakersville. The monument, much like the one dedicated in September of 2017 at the Burnsville courthouse, features copies of The Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution and The Bill of Rights. The originals are in the National Archives in Washington, DC but when the project is complete you will be able to go to Bakerville, view this impressive monument and read copies of these important documents. This is a project of Foundation Forward Inc., a non-profit company founded in 2011 by Vance and Mary Jo Patterson of Morganton, NC. They build Your Charters of Freedom Monuments in local communities throughout the country since many people are not able to travel that long distance to see these important founding documents that secured the freedom and rights of the American people.. Anyone wishing to be a part of this project can do so. Those who make a significant contribution will receive their name on a plaque which will be at the display.
