Retired District Court Judge Alexander Lyerly was recently honored at area courthouses. Lyerly, who served 34 years in the 24th Judicial District was honored with his portrait being placed in the Courthouse courtrooms. Lyerly retired in March 31, 2014 as District Court Judge in the 24th Judicial District, which covers Avery, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga and Yancey. He also served as a commission member on the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission.
