Albert Rexter Edwards

Albert Rexter Edwards, age 84, of the Piney Hill Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 5th, 2018.   A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Rex and Bessie Hilton Edwards.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Artie Paul Edwards; grandson, Joshua Edwards; brother, Claude Edwards and two sisters:  Pansy Hensley and Florence Johnson.  Albert was of the Baptist faith who loved  buying, trading and selling, also known as “picking” and  farming the old timey way.  He was always helping his neighbors and friends with all their building projects or any other need and will always be remembered as a wonderful friend, neighbor, mentor and example of being a good Samaritan including family members who came and stayed with him in time of need.

Surviving is his loving wife of 64 years, Pat Johnson Edwards;  daughters:  Ellen Murphy and husband, Jerry, of Piney Hill and Evelyn Cox and husband, David, of Spruce Pine; son, Jonathan Edwards and wife, Adneia, of Morganton; grandchildren:  Christopher Paul Edwards and Jordan Cox and wife, Brandy, and their child, Jadeyn; a sister, Martha Higgins of Johnson City, TN.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 8th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Rev. Clay Dale and Rev. Roy Perry will officiate.  The family receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Edwards Cemetery located at 389 Piney Hill Road.
