Flooding in Yancey County Update

Most of Yancey County got back to normal Monday after a weekend of heavy rains that caused flooding in several areas. By early yesterday morning all the roads that had been covered in water on Sunday were back in passable condition. The hardest hit areas were Pensacola, South Toe and Cane River. Both Patience Park and Cane River Park received substantial damage. The curfew that was imposed over Sunday night was lifted and not reinstated on Monday. Most areas around Yancey County received several inches of rain on Sunday but it was the 14.42 inches received on Mount Mitchell that created the problems as it ran off into the lower areas.. Rain reported to the Yancey County E-911 included 11.5″ on Rock Creek, 7.01 on Burgin Cove in Busick, 7.5 on the Low Gap side of Bolens Creek, 10.25 inches on Clear Creek Road, 5.36 in Celo, 3 inches on Prices Creek, 7.5 on Bolens Creek,  6.5 on White Oak and 11.76 at Cattail Creek.
