Ellis Renfro

Ellis Renfro, age 93, of Green Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 30th, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Campus of Mission Hospital.

A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Bert and Minnie Peterson Renfro and the husband of the late Mildred Adkins Renfro, who passed away in 2012.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Bob” Renfro and his sister, Erma Renfro.   Ellis is a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in World War II.  He retired from Glen Raven Mills, was also a farmer, and of the Baptist faith.  One of his greatest joys was riding his tractor and mowing his yard.

Surviving is his son, Mike Renfro of Green Mountain; daughters:  Donna Renfro and husband, Durwood Peed, of Greenville, SC and Dianne Hughes and husband, Randy, of Burnsville; grandchildren:  Skyler Hughes, Dylan Renfro and Kyndall Renfro-Peed; step-grandchildren:  Justin Peed and wife, Rebekah, Jase and Jake Peed; sister-in-law, Gladys Renfro of Tipton Hill; nephew, Bobby Renfro and wife, Liz, of Tipton Hill; niece, Marcella Peterson and husband Terry, of Burnsville; and great-niece and great-nephew:  Chelsey Whitfield and Heath Renfro.

Funeral Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2nd in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services.  Rev. Blaine Whitson will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 p.m. prior to the services.  Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Fairview Cemetery at Horton Hill with Rev. Phillip Hughes to officiate.  Military Honors will follow conducted by the Sgt. E. L. Randolph, Chapter #57 D.A.V.
