Cary Jan Pitman, age 47, of Vance Farm Road in Spruce Pine, the Halltown community, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at her home.
Born on June 16, 1971 in Cleveland County, NC, she is the daughter of Mike Pitman and Dawn Vance Blair. She was a member of the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of U.N.C. Greensboro and U.N.C. Charlotte with a degree in dance education. She went on to teach dance education at the N.C. School of the Arts in Charlotte.
Cary was a free spirited person that lived life to its fullest. She loved being on the Vance farm, animals and particularly dogs. She also loved her church and church family.
Left to cherish her memories are her mother; Dawn Blair and husband, Tom of Spruce Pine; her father; Mike Pitman and wife, Anne of Newland; her brothers; Jonathan Pitman and wife, Emily of Burnsville and Grey Pitman of Newland; her sisters; Natalie Houston of Spruce Pine and Nena Kennedy of Spruce Pine; her step sisters; Elizabeth Adams of Erwin, TN and Natalie Blair of Nashville, TN; and her nieces and nephews; Caleb, Vance, Reed, Delaney, Zeb, Heath and Finley.
The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of Cary Pitman on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeremy Troxler officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the church. Entombment will follow in the Spruce Pine Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge for their wonderful care of Cary during her illness.
