Yancey County Commissioners Meeting

Monday night, February 11th Yancey County Commissioners meeting included a public hearing on the widening of a section of road to make entry and exit at the new Blue Ridge Elementary School easier. The Board of Education has asked the County to take over the project so that they can request help from the State. The School System will then reimburse the County for the project. During the Cooperative Extension report new members of their staff, Pierce Bingham and Tres Magner were introduced. Frank Blankenship of the NC Forest Service also updated Commissioners on their projects, as did Becca Smith with TRACTOR.  Commissioners expected to hear from the Chamber of Commerce about the 2018 Travel and Tourism account but Yancey Chamber Executive Director Ginger Johnson  delayed that report until next month. Commissioners David Grindstaff and Lynne Austin were appointed  to the Travel & Tourism Board.
