At a special meeting yesterday, the Yancey County Board of Education appointed Heather Cox as interim superintendent to serve until a permanent superintendent is in place.
On October 15th last year, current Superintendent, Dr Tony Tipton announced his retirement after 34 years working in public education. The retirement becomes effective on March 1st of this year.
The Yancey County School Board conducted community meetings earlier this year to get public input from the community and school staff about the selection of a new superintendent.
