Mitchell High CTE Invites Speakers to Share Career and Educational Experiences with Current CTE Students

As part of CTE Month at Mitchell High School, the CTE teachers invited speakers into their classrooms on February 21st and 22nd to share information about career and educational  experience in field related to their programs.  The majority of the speakers were Mitchell High School graduates that were enrolled in the same CTE programs in high school and have successfully continued their education and/or career in the area they were interested in during high school.  Listed below is information about the visiting presenters students had the opportunity to listen to and ask questions during these presentations.  Mitchell High School, CTE would like to thank all of the presenters for taking the time to share real world expectations and opportunities with our current CTE students at Mitchell High School. 

Recent graduated Colton Hefner and Zach Richardson visited Victoria Banner’s welding classes on Thursday February 21st to talk about their new experiences in the workforce.  Colton works for Hopson’s Grading and Zach is working for McGee Brothers.  Both students discussed workplace expectations and discussed how they were using the skills they learned in Mrs. Banner’s welding courses at their new jobs


Ciji Dellinger a Mitchell High School alumni, nurse and current Mitchell County Schools nurse talks to the Nurse Aide students. 


Michelle South a Mitchell and Avery county Livestock Cooperative Extension Agent visits Mr. Huggins Animal Science II class to talk about careers in the Animal Science Industry.  Michelle involved the students by asking them to write one item they were interested in on the board and then discussed how it directly related to the agriculture and animal science industries. 


Cody Miller is a Manufacturing Engineer at BRP in Spruce Pine and a graduate of Mitchell High School.  Cody graduated with a degree from ETSU in Engineering Technology with concentration in Industrial.  Cody shared information about his educational path and current career at BRP.

Jenny Zeng a Mitchell High School graduate visited the CTE Business classes to talk about her college experience and business related career goals. Jenny will graduate from ASU (Appalachian State Univeristy) in May. She has already has a signed contract with a business out of Ballentine near Charlotte as a risk management specialist (accesses risks for businesses success and failures). She talked to the students about how she has her license in life and heath insurance. Jenny shared information about a scholarship that she got last summer for $5000 to internship with a company in Atlanta. While at Mitchell , Jenny was active in FBLA and has been the president of phi beta lambda (the FBLA college level organization) at App State for the last two years and has competed with them all four years at ASU. Students asked her questions about her favorite HS business class which she said was webpage design – liked to code and they asked her about her most beneficial business class at Mitchell and Jenny said all of the Microsoft classes that came with certification. Jenny said she chose business because she knew that there would always be jobs in the field.
