Mitchell House Assisted Living and Memory Care Receives “Deficiency Free” Survey

Affinity Living Group’s Mitchell House Assisted Living and Memory Care, located in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, recently received a “Deficiency Free” survey from the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. DHSR is tasked with monitoring assisted living communities across the state to ensure regulatory compliance, and a survey with no deficiencies is a rare achievement. “Our staff members went above and beyond to make Mitchell House a great place to live,” said Sandra Korzeniewski, Senior Vice President of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance for Affinity Living Group. “This achievement belongs to them. Our mission is to create the ‘best life’ for all we serve. When you put the resident first, everything else falls into place.” The DHSR annual survey is unannounced and very detailed. All aspects of care and services are reviewed, including staffing, residents’ rights, quality of care, dietary and environmental concerns, and more. “Our communities always strive for the best,” said CEO Charles Trefzger. “We are proud of the work the team at Mitchell House has done to exemplify our commitment to caring for our residents.” During the review, surveyors tour the facility, quiz staff, review clinical records, and interview residents and family members about life and the care they are receiving. “Our team really came together and worked hard to achieve this recognition,” said Tennille Garofalo, Executive Director. “I couldn’t be more proud of the work they have done and continue to do every day.” Mitchell House is licensed to provide housing and care for 32 assisted living and 48 memory care residents, for a total of 80 residents. Memory care is provided through “The Journey” program, which includes specialized training for staff in caring for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of memory loss. Mitchell House is located at 13681 Highway 226 S in Spruce Pine.
