Mitchell County Officers Receive New Pistols

The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office has received new pistols thanks to a trade-in program at Cooper’s Trading in Burnsville. The new guns are 9 mm and replace the officers’ ten year old .40 caliber pistols.  According to the sheriff’s department, ammunition is cheaper for the 9 mm pistols, the guns are smaller, weigh less and are easier to handle. All but three of the 21 new guns were free. Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Detective Cecil Hobson began the effort to get the new equipment for the sheriff’s office. Deputies were given the option to purchase their old pistols.
