Burnsville Woman Charged With Felony Child Abuse

Bianca Marie Esposito, age 25 of Burnsville was charged on September 3rd with felony intentional child abuse causing serious bodily injury, misdemeanor child abuse, and misdemeanor assault on a child under 12. The charges stem from August 24th when  the Burnsville Police Department was notified of an infant male that had been brought into Blue Ridge Medical Center in Spruce Pine with serious injuries. The workers at the hospital were concerned that the infant’s injuries were consistent with child abuse. Before officers could arrive at Blue Ridge Medical Center in Spruce Pine they were notified the infant was being transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville and the infant’s parents were on their way to the Asheville hospital as well. An officer with the Police Department met with the parents and staff from Yancey County Department of Social Services to take the initial incident/investigation report.  The report was turned over to Lt. Detective Randall Shuford for investigation due to doctor’s statements and findings that the infant’s injuries were consistent with child abuse, which led to Esposito’s arrest and the charges. Esposito’s bond was set at $150,000. Her court date is currently scheduled for September 12, 2019.According to police further charges are possible.
