US Constitution Week is September 17 – 23; Churches Asked to Ring Bells

The United States Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787. The federal government recognizes the week of September 17 through the 23rd as Constitution Week. Local members of the Daughters of the Revolution are asking Yancey County churches to ring the church bells at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17th. The Town of Burnsville signed a proclamation recognizing Constitution Week and the Daughters of the Revolution members are distributing copies of the constitution and other patriotic literature. The Daughters of the American Revolution has three main goals in promoting an annual celebration of the Constitution: (1 Emphasize the responsibility of American citizens to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution; (2) Keep people informed that the Constitution is the basis for America’s great heritage and the basis for our way of life; (3) Encourage the study of history that led to the Constitution.
