Write-In Candidate Wins Burnsville Town Council Seat

In the Burnsville Town Election yesterday, write-in candidate Denise Collier won one of the two seats available on the Town Council.  Incumbent Judy Buchanan was the top vote getter with 181 votes. Denise Collier was second with 168 votes. Danny McIntosh had 132 votes. Just over 24% of registered voters participated in the election.

In Spruce Pine, incumbent Mayor Darla Harding received 85% of the vote to win over Lori McIntyre, 214 votes to 39.  For town council, James Acuff Jr and Rocky Buchanan ran unopposed for the two seats and will remain on the board.

In Bakersville, there was a one vote difference for the two positions on town council. Andy Palmer was the top vote getter with 33 votes. Charlie Nash was second with 24 votes. Beau Thomas finished one vote behind with 23.

In Mitchell County, 19% of the voters went to the polls for the election.
