Pedestrian Killed Walking Highway in Yancey County

Early Tuesday morning a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking down US 19E in Yancey County.  The State Highway Patrol troopers responded to the collision on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, just before 3:20 a.m. on US 19 near 80 North. The collision involved a single vehicle that was traveling West on US 19 that struck a pedestrian walking west in the middle of the road. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing at the time of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured, and no charges are pending. The identity of the pedestrian has not been made public as the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is working to contact the deceased next of kin.
