Mitchell County Schools will soon have a mental health professional on call to assist all of its schools. This person will work with students on a more in depth level than the guidance counselors and will be trained in specific areas such as suicide prevention. School counselors will refer students to the mental health professional and parents will have to sign a form for those services. The program is expected to begin in February. This new service is made possible through a partnership between Bakersville Community Health Center, Mountain Community Health Partnership and Mitchell County school system. The new program is expected to help keep troubled students in school.
