Pedestrian Killed Walking Highway Identified

The pedestrian killed early Tuesday morning while walking down US 19E has been identified. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol his name is Anthony Wayne Montpelier, also known as “Tony Kash”. Troopers responded to the collision just before 3:20 a.m. on US 19 near 80 north. The collision involved a single vehicle that was traveling West on US 19 that struck Montpelier when he was walking west in the middle of the road. Montpelier was wearing dark clothing at the time of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured, and no charges are pending.
