Yancey County Census Meeting

Burnsville and Yancey County Officials gathered at the Burnsville Town Center yesterday afternoon to discuss the upcoming Nationwide 2020 Census.

The meeting was directed by Chuck Megown, a Partnership Specialist from the Atlanta Division that includes North Carolina.

The main discussion of the meeting was the importance of counties encouraging participation in the census.  Government funded programs that are passed down to states and counties are all based on population. A low census participation could result in a lower than true count that would create less funding.

Workers are needed in all counties around the state.  The average worker pay will be $17 hour plus mileage for travel.

The Nationwide Census is taken every 10 years. This year, there will be an online address available to provide your information with your smart phone or computer.  The Census will run from April 1st through July 31st.
