A Mitchell County man has been arrested for pointing a laser beam at a helicopter. Fifty-year-old Roger Dean Bennett of Herb McKinney Road in Bakersville was arrested January 21st and charged with an offense against public safety. The charge stems from a Wings helicopter crew reporting a laser beam being pointed at them as they were flying over Herb McKinney Road. This created a potentially hazardous situation. The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by Federal Law Enforcement. Bennett’s bond has been set at $15,000 and his next court date is scheduled for February, 12, 2020.
