Blevins Found Guilty of Animal Cruelty

In a Yancey County Court on Wednesday, 28 year old Dallas Christopher Blevins of Burnsville was found guilty of misdemeanor cruelty to an animal. Blevins is one of two men charged with felony animal cruelty for using a belt to choke a German Shepherd dog to death.

The incident occurred on May 25th 2019 when the family pet bit his 4 year old daughter on the ear. The child received stitches for her injuries at the hospital.

Blevins received a 45 day suspended sentence and 12 months of unsupervised probation on the misdemeanor cruelty charge. He was ordered to pay $3,207.50 which included a fine, attorney fees and court cost.  He was found not guilty on the charge of conspiracy to commit animal cruelty.

A trial date has not been set for Blevins’s brother in law, Anthony Elkins, who is also charged with felony cruelty and conspiracy.
