In a meeting on March 2 the Mitchell County Board of Commissioners awarded a 5 year contract to Lifeguard Ambulance Service for 6.79 million dollars. That is 1.358 million dollars annually to provide EMS service to the county. This change was prompted by the changes at Mission Hospital that would have increased the cost of the EMS service.
The commissioners went into executive session to decide between a proposal by Lifeguard and Mitchell Medics. After the decision the Commissioners said both companies impressed the board with their presentations but it came down to money. The new contract begins July 1st of this year.
