Irene Briggs Banks went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 10th, 2020 on her 92nd birthday surrounded by her loving family. A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mildred Brigman Briggs and wife of the late Vernon C. Banks, who passed away in 2012. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Bridget Banks; brother, James Briggs and a son-in-law, Garold Metcalf. Irene was a hard worker and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved the Lord and cherished her family. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and was always there for everyone.
Surviving is her daughter, Joyce Fox and husband, Anthony, of Weaverville, Tom Banks and wife, Christy, of Erwin, TN, Ricky Banks of Burnsville, Eddie Banks of East Flat Rock, Frank Banks and wife, Shelba, of Burnsville and Charles Banks and wife, Judy, also of Burnsville; sisters: Carolyn Rich and husband, Danny, of Paint Fork and Mary Lenon of Swannanoa; grandchildren: Brett, Jeff, Jason, and Josh Banks, Cynthia Marshall, Angie Parker, Robert Metcalf, Sara Shelton, Elijah and Lucas Banks, Alishabeth Duncan, Malachi, Allison, Jacob, Noah Banks and Hanna Banks; great-grandchildren: Audrey, Drake, Mitchell, Kelby, Lauren, William, Levi, Rachel, Kyley, Garrett, Gavin, Grayson, Gunnar, Dawson, Ella, Karleigh and Savaya. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 13th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Dale Banks and Rev. Charlie Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Vernon Banks Cemetery with Rev. Kelby Parker officiating. At all other times the family will be meeting at the home of the son, Frank Banks at 108 Horton Creek Road.
