Due to the CDC and government recommendations encouraged worldwide with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and the recommendation from USA Cycling, the Freewheelers Association of Spartanburg has decided to cancel the 45th Annual Assault on Mt. Mitchell and Marion for the health and safety of every individual involved.
“The Freewheelers Association of Spartanburg would like to assure all of the Assaults participants this decision was made with the health and safety for all those involved as our top priority,” said Freewheelers president, Karl Johnson. “We understand the impact of this choice and we are truly very sorry. We want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we have tried to make the best decision for the most people.”
Due to the unexpected cancellation, The Freewheelers will have a few options for riders with regards to their registrations for the 2020 Assault on Mt. Mitchell and Marion. More information on these options will be released next week once all details are finalized.
“Don’t worry, next year’s ride has already been scheduled for Monday, May 17th 2020 so go ahead and mark your calendars and stay healthy out there!” said Ride Director, Jenn Chew.
