Don Duncan

Don Duncan, age 80, of Stewart Branch Road in Bakersville, went home to meet his Lord on Friday, March 27, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on March 6, 1940 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Paul and Myrtle Willis Duncan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ed Duncan and his sister, Madge Duncan McMahan.

Don was an active member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church. He loved his church and church family and he was particularly fond of his Celebrate Recovery family. Don never met a stranger and considered everyone he met as one of his ‘best friends’. He loved all of his family and he was very fond of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had a forty year career as a truck driver and was recognized for driving over two million miles accident free. After his truck driving career ended, he spent most days working in his small engine repair shop working on lawn mowers, weed eaters, garden tillers, and other small engines.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of sixty-two years; Barbara Cook Duncan of the home; his son; Ricky Duncan and wife, Debbie of Bakersville; his daughter; Connie Duncan McKinney and husband, Rocky of Bakersville; his granddaughter; Melissa Duncan Shuford and husband, Bryan of Spruce Pine; his grandson; Kaleb McKinney of Bakersville; his great grandchildren; Isaac and Abigail Shuford of Spruce Pine; his brother; Robert Duncan of Spruce Pine; several nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Bear Creek Baptist Church with the Rev’s Bruce Cannon, Chris Rathbone, and Andy Willis officiating. Private visitation will be on Sunday, March 29, 2020 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Bear Creek Baptist Church. Interment will immediately follow in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
