Mary “Sunny” Sedberry, age 96, of Gordon Lane in Burnsville, passed away Monday morning, March 30, 2020 at her residence.
Born March 21, 1924 in Moore County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late William Ratchford Haynes and Clara Stevens Haynes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Bruce Sedberry, a daughter Kathleen Sedberry, and six brothers and sisters.
“Sunny” was a generous, kind and loving lady, who was a good and loving mother, and especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Prior to returning to North Carolina, she retired from her position with the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. She loved attending and participating in activities at the Mitchell County Senior Center, and also loved flower gardening. She was of the Christian faith.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Ken Sedberry of Burnsville; three grandchildren, Noah and Galen Sedberry and Kailand Carpenter; and three great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jordan and Kainan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
A private memorial service for Mary “Sunny” Sedberry will be held at a later date.
