COVID-19 Friday Update

As of Thursday at 11am NC is reporting 1,857 Presumptive and Confirmed cases of COVID-19. 16 deaths statewide and 83 of the 100 counties have at least 1 reported case. 42% of those infected are between the ages of 25-49.

Now there are reports that the virus can be spread by those who have the virus but DO NOT have any symptoms, which is why staying at home as much as you can is so important.

More than 350,000 unemployment claims have been filed in NC.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service has announced that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an Economic Impact Payment. Instead, payments will be automatically deposited into their bank accounts or a check will be mailed.

Eligible taxpayers who filed tax returns for either 2019 or 2018 will automatically receive an economic impact payment of up to $1,200 for individuals or $2,400 for married couples and up to $500 for each qualifying child. Those with gross income over $75,000 will receive an adjusted portion of the full amount.

Yancey County Courthouse Services will be by appointment only beginning on Monday, April 6, 2020. The Yancey County Courthouse will operate on a normal schedule and staff will be available to assist you.
