Ona Hopson

Ona Hopson, age 92, of Green Mountain, passed away on Monday, May 04, 2020 peacefully at her residence.

A native of Mitchell County she was a daughter of the late Dewey and Rosa Thomas Woody. Mrs. Hopson was the wife of Charles Hopson who passed away in 2007. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Madge Burgin and Helen Bowman.

Ona was a teacher’s assistant for 23 years at Clearmont School. She was a member of North Bend Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed her flowers and keeping her lawn clean. Ona had a big heart for her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by sons, Michael Hopson and wife, Susan, of Burnsville; David Hopson and wife, Sherrie and Tommy Hopson and wife, Glenda, of Green Mountain; daughters Pamela Cruz and husband, Gabriel, of Alexander and Jeanne Proffitt and husband, Randy, of Burnsville; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pauline Hopson, of South Gate, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 07, 2020 at Anglin-Evans Cemetery on Jacks Creek Road with Rev. Marvin Hensley and Rev. Phillip Hughes officiating.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to her caregivers and the staff of Compassionate Care and Palliative Services for all the assistance Ona received under their care.
