A Rockslide Has Closed Down a Road in Madison County

NCDOT reported a rockslide incident around 3pm Saturday afternoon in Madison County. The slide blocked both lanes of US-25 and US-70, near US-25 Business southeast of Marshall.

DOT engineers said recent heavy rains caused rocks and topsoil to tumble downhill onto the roadway. The slide area is about 200 feet tall and 75 feet wide and is expected to be cleared by this Saturday afternoon.

A traffic count two years ago showed the highway carried an average of 9,800 vehicles per day. For real-time travel information, visit DriveNC.gov
