Annette McKinney

Annette Gravett McKinney, age 78, of Brushy Creek Road in Spruce Pine, the Estatoe community, went to her heavenly home on Friday, May 29, 2020.

Born on September 15, 1941 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Douglas ‘Butch’ and Mittie Hensley Gravett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill R. McKinney who passed away in 2014. Also preceding her in death were her sisters; Elizabeth Sherman, Virginia Bradley, Mary Lee Green, and Frances Pitman and her brother; Charles Smith.

Annette was a member of the Spruce Pine First Baptist Church for more than fifty years and she loved the Lord and her church family. While a faithful member, she served on numerous committees. She worked in Vacation Bible School, Mission Friends on Wednesday nights and many Sunday mornings she helped with ‘Kids in Worship’. She used her God-Given talents in his service. She truly loved her Lord and loved to learn more about him through the study of his word as she walked by faith.

Annette went on several volunteer mission trips with her husband, Bill. Russia, Alaska, and New York were a few of the places she traveled. She loved to have fun in all the things she did. Even with her own illness, she was always concerned about others who were having difficulties. She never hesitated to sacrifice for the sake of other people that she could help. Truly a woman of grace, joy and patience all through her illness with A.L.S., Annette never lost her sweet smile and kind ways. Her bright sparkling eyes spoke when she could not. Her humble spirit were blessings to all who were with her. She taught many how to suffer well during the latter part of her life.

Annette attended Harris High School, but graduated from Marion High School. She was retired from Baxter’s after thirty-two years of service. Following her retirement from Baxter’s, she worked ten years with Safe Place Thrift in Spruce Pine.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter; Ashley Brown of Spruce Pine who was her pride and joy and her caregiver until God called her home. She is also survived by her sister; Shelda Gravett and her brother; Doug Gravett and wife, Brenda. There are also four very special children that brought much joy to her; Kaylan, Braxton, Lennox, and Luca.

A memorial service will be planned and announced later when completed.
