Counties Making Different Decisions Amidst COVID-19

As our communities continue to move through Phase 2 of COVID-19 reopening each of the communities is responding in a different way. The Spruce Pine Town Council has decided not to hold a July 4th Fireworks celebration or to open the swimming pool at Brad Ragan Park.  According to Spruce Pine Mayor Darla Harding all decisions were made with the public’s safety in mind. The Town of Bakersville however plans to hold their fireworks as scheduled on July 3rd but have cancelled the Annual Town-Wide Yard Sale. The decision to not have the yard sale was due to concerns about having so many people in such close contact. In Yancey County commissioners believe that they can safely hold a fireworks display on July 4th in Burnsville. Also both swimming pools in Yancey County, the Burnsville pool and Toe River Campground, are scheduled to open this Saturday. The pools will operate at half capacity with people supplying their own chairs and umbrellas.
