Different Look, Same Great Service

Have you noticed that the Yancey County Emergency vehicles look a little different these days? You will see the same large white truck but now a green and white logo with mountains on the side and the new Heritage EMS name. Heritage EMS  is the same emergency service as before but now operated locally by Yancey County. For many years the EMS was operated by the county then in the 1990s the county changed and contracted services with the Mission Healthcare System. When HCA bought out Mission, HCA told county officials that they would need to go to bid for the 2020-2021 year. After bids came in, the county decided they could provide the same great service with the same quality staff that has been serving the community. The only change is the ambulances look different and the uniforms are different. County Manager Lynn Austin said, “The County is excited to be able to offer this service in house! It will be the same great people we all know and love! Also we would like to welcome back former EMS County Employees that were with the organization when it was a county run system in the late 80’s early 90’s. The commissioners took this on as a County Department  in order to have continued quality emergency service to  protect the health and wellbeing of our citizens.”
