Big Lottery Wins in the Area

Five million dollar winner in Buncombe County and one million dollar winner in McDowell County–all within the last few days playing the North Carolina Education Lottery.  In McDowell County, Stephanie Adams tried her luck on a single Power 10s scratch-off ticket and walked away the winner of a $1 million top prize. Adams and her husband stopped at the Ingles Markets on West Henderson Street in Marion to do some shopping and decided to buy a few scratch-offs. According to Adams, “We were just getting ready to leave and   he said, ‘Let’s scratch our tickets.’ So, we did and, ‘Wow!’ I showed it to my husband like, ‘Does this look right?’ And he said, ‘I think I’m gonna have a heart attack!’” Adams chose the lump sum and took home $424,503 after required state and federal tax withholdings.

In Buncombe County, Kevin Clark said he went to about 40 stores and bought every $20 Mega cash ticket he could find. Those stores included the Stop ‘N Go in Swannanoa where he bought the lucky ticket worth $5 million.
