Martha Lylan Carpenter Thomas, age 79 of Possum Trot, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 at her home. She was born August 12th, 1941 to Lemuel and Vinnie Carpenter. She was married to Bobby Thomas for 47 loving years. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Wayne Carpenter.
She is survived by brother, Milas Carpenter of Hickory, North Carolina; daughter, Sallie Whitson and husband Scotty of Unicoi, Tennessee; sons: Joey Thomas of Burnsville, Johnny Thomas of Burnsville, Gerald Thomas and wife Sheila of Erwin, Tennessee and Daniel Thomas and wife Sharon of Green Mountain. She also had twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, of which she was a loyal member of for 59 years, on Sunday, the 13th day of September. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Reverend Jimbo Seaton, Reverend Davey Shelton and Reverend Roy Whitson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Bradley Elkins, Lee Thomas, Casey Thomas, Bobby Whitson, Michael Banks, Mark Thomas, Tim Autrey and Tyler Banks.
The family would like to give very special thanks to Christy Chandler for taking care of their mom and grandmother. Friends and loved ones will be gathering at Martha’s home.
