Road Closures Expected for Halloween

There is no official Yancey Chamber sponsored Halloween event in the Town of Burnsville this year however several merchants will be giving out candy. The Town is required by law to submit an application requesting a road closure and to pass an ordinance if the request is approved each and every time a road owned by DOT is closed for an event. The Burnsville Police Department submitted a road closure request to NC Department of Transportation in August of this year in anticipation of the Chamber of Commerce Halloween event. The road closure request was not responded to by DOT.  Police Chief Brian Buchanan reached out again in September. The DOT finally gave approval today for the closure of parts of North, South, East and West Main Streets. The Town of Burnsville is holding a Special Meeting October 15 and is expected to approve closure of these roads for safety purposes on Saturday evening, October 31st due to the anticipated Halloween activity.
