Where have all the barrels gone, long time passing……with apologies to Pete Seeger, if you drive from Micaville to Spruce Pine today you may find yourself asking that question. Yesterday evening the long awaited 4 lane project was opened for use marking the first time you can exit Interstate 26 in Madison County and drive all the way to Spruce Pine on 4 lanes of roadway. The much anticipated project has been years in the making and hopes to help with economic development along the corridor. As for the cones and barrels, we are sure they will be off to a new project. In the meantime, we urge you to drive carefully as we adjust to the new traffic pattern. As with all roadways in North Carolina, the speed limit on the new and improved US 19E is 55 miles per hour unless posted otherwise.
