Yancey Advancement Foundation Second Round of Community Grant – Press Release From the Yancey County COVID-19 Relief Fund. On 14 October 2020 the Yancey Advancement Foundation, Inc. (a 501(c)(3) Community Development Nonprofit affiliated with the Yancey County Economic Development Commission) announced a second round of grant funding from the Yancey County COVID-19 Relief Fund to support community nonprofits and to assist local residents struggling with economic and health impacts as a result of the pandemic. The following grant awards were announced:
$15,000 to Reconciliation House to assist with rent, utility, heating, and other subsistence needs in the community to those impacted financially by the pandemic in our community.
$10,000 to Dig-In! Yancey Community Garden to support emergency food assistance initiatives focusing on food insecurity in our community.
$8,000 to the Town of Burnsville to fund a utility assistance program to offer cash assistance to public water and sewer customers who face delinquent utility bills resulting from financial challenges due to the pandemic.
$5,000 to Pisgah Legal Services to assist Yancey County clients with rental assistance for those facing eviction and housing challenges due to loss of employment and other financial impacts resulting from the public health crisis.
$3,000 to Double Island Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a King Bag Valve Mask to aid first responders in the Double Island Community when responding to calls where patients may be in respiratory distress.
“We are pleased to announce this round of grant funding and to be able to support these wonderful nonprofits who do so much to provide front-line assistance to the most vulnerable in our community and to those who have suffered financial impacts resulting from the COVID-19 crisis. We owe our sincere thanks to these and the many other local nonprofits, their staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to make our community the vibrant place to live we are all proud to call home” said Jamie McMahan, Yancey EDC Director and Executive Director of the Yancey Advancement Foundation. “This round of funding represents $41,000 in community investment, for a total of $56,000 in grants made from the COVID-19 Relief Fund to date”.
“I would also like to take this opportunity once again to thank the Steep Canyon Rangers, Young & McQueen Grading Company, and Homeplace Beer Company for their efforts to raise money for the Yancey County COVID-19 Relief Fund. Through their hard work, and the contributions from many donors across our community, and many direct donor contributions we continue to raise significant funds for future rounds of grant investments in the community in the coming months. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude and I want to thank the companies, their management and staff for being the best example of corporate citizenship here or anywhere else in the state” added McMahan.
