A body of a 38 year old woman was found Friday, November 27th. A hunter from Yancey County discovered the deceased body with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The hunter immediately contacted the Yancey County Sheriff’s Department and alerted his friend who was also hunting in the area. According to the Yancey County Sheriff’s Department the female was found on the Appalachian Trail. She had apparently left a vehicle in Erwin, TN. After an investigation the Sherriff’s Department ruled it a suicide.
