Blue Ridge Elementary Moved to Remote Learning Days January 5-8, 2021

From Yancey County Schools:

Our commitment is to keep our community informed of the efforts of YCS staff to maintain the safest learning environments possible for our students and staff. After consulting with the YC Health Department, this statement is to announce that we have employees at Blue Ridge Elementary who have tested positive for COVID as well as several employees who are in quarantine.

YCS is proceeding with the highest level of caution while working under the recommendations of the Yancey County Health Department. Blue Ridge Elementary School will be placed on remote learning effective tomorrow, Tuesday, January 5, 2021, for the remainder of this week, through Friday, January 8, 2021. Academic packets will be available for pickup on Tuesday, January 5th from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the school.

The Blue Ridge Elementary MAGIC program will also be closed and will plan to resume on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.

During this time of remote learning, the YCS Child Nutrition Department is offering frozen meal packs for Blue Ridge Elementary students only. These meals will be available for pick-up one day only, tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Blue Ridge Elementary School. Registration for these meals will be available online at www.yanceync.net through 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. This will be a one-time registration and must be completed for each student individually. If you are unable to register online for these meals, please call the county office at 682-6101.

Any students or staff members who may have come in contact with a person who has tested positive have been notified by the school administration or the Yancey County Health Department. YCS will continue to follow safety protocols and work in partnership with the Yancey County Health Department to ensure a safe learning environment is maintained throughout the school system.

YCS administration will also continue to monitor the situation in the community throughout this week and provide an update if there are changes to any of our other schools.

The current YCS active case numbers are 10 employees. As we return to school this week, we encourage parents to keep you children at home if they are not feeling well, have been exposed to COVID, or have tested positive. Please contact your school nurse if you have any further questions or concerns.

YCS appreciates the public for continued patience and understanding during this continuing public healthcare crisis.
