New Bus Safety Feature for Avery County

Avery County will début a new safety feature for school buses. This system could actually save lives when school children cross the road and a motorist runs by the stopped bus. The  new safety innovation know as “predictive stop arms,”   uses radar and a loud external speaker to warn students of oncoming vehicles both in the front and rear of the bus if a vehicle is anticipated to speed by a stopped school bus. The system comes with a cost of  $2,199 apiece and has been installed on two buses thus far. There will be a demonstration of the new safety feature at the next Avery County Board of Education meeting on February 9.
