The Yancey County Economic Development Commission is pleased to announce the expansion of The Quartz Corp’s regional operations to a new facility located in the Micaville Community in Yancey County. The company will begin its new Yancey County operations in the 150,000 square-foot facility formerly owned by Hickory Springs Manufacturing. The Quartz Corp is a key supplier of high purity quartz sand for the solar, semiconductor and fiber-optic markets.
“It is my great pleasure to welcome The Quartz Corp to Yancey County and see them expand their regional presence in the Micaville Community. This announcement comes almost one year to the date that Hickory Springs Manufacturing announced the closure of its operations in Micaville. We would like to thank all the partners who worked together to bring this deal forward in that short window and are pleased that the facility will be in the hands of a regional industry leader and up and running in 2021” said Yancey County Economic Development Director Jamie McMahan. “I am happy to have The Quartz Corp in Yancey County and look forward to them growing and expanding their business in our community” said Yancey County Commission Chairman Jeff Whitson.
The company issued the following statement announcing their expansion: “The Quartz Corporation is pleased to announce the addition of a facility in Micaville, NC to our platform. This location will become the central packaging facility for our North Carolina operations and represents a significant step forward in technology to keep our packaged products competitive in the marketplace. The new facility is west of our primary production facilities in Mitchell County and we are happy to be expanding our footprint into Yancey County to continue our long history in the area. We look forward to shipping the first packaged products from the facility in mid-2021.” In commenting on the announcement County Manager Lynn Austin added “I am excited to have The Quartz Corp expand their business and call Yancey County home to their central packing facility. We are excited to have them and look forward to good things to come.”
