Your library is joining the NC Cardinal Library Consortium. NC Cardinal is a growing consortium of public libraries in over 50 North Carolina counties dedicated to sharing resources and expanding access through the use of a single online catalog. Currently, the AMY Regional Library offers 160,000 items in its collection. NC Cardinal has 7.2 million in its catalog to share.
When AMY migrates to NC Cardinal, patrons will gain access to those 7.2 million items!
What happens first? You may see some services unavailable during our transition, from February 15 to 21, but you will be able to check out items, receive holds ready for pickup, use the computers, connect to Wi-Fi, or use the printer/copier/fax.
You can officially begin using the new NC Cardinal software to manage checkouts on Thursday, February 18. The online catalog will look different, but will function essentially the same as before.
When can you begin requesting and borrowing materials from any NC Cardinal Library?
Monday, March 15. With your library card, you will be able to place holds online, by phone, or in person for items to be sent from any NC Cardinal Library to your pickup library of choice in Avery, Mitchell, or Yancey. You can also borrow and return materials to any NC Cardinal Library around the state. This is at no additional cost to library patrons.
Two changes you can expect: (1) a new online catalog and (2) your password! Contact your local branch to reactivate your password on or after 2/18/2021. The system will have new features for you to take advantage of as well, and please ask your local library about those. What’s not changing? You will continue to have first dibs on new books, new movies, and any other materials owned by the Avery-Mitchell-Yancey Regional Library. Your Libby/Overdrive account will not change, however, your password will.
The NC Cardinal project is made possible by funding from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (IMLS grant number LS-00-18-0034-18)
