Bobby Ray Pendley, age 78, of U.S. Hwy. 19-E in Spruce Pine, the Estatoe community, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at his home.
Born on August 2, 1942 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Fred and Versie Benfield Pendley.
Bobby was a member and deacon of the Beaver Creek Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Pepsi. After his retirement from Pepsi, he was the owner and operator of Pendley Automotive in Spruce Pine.
He was an avid Carolina Tar Heel basketball fan and also a fan of the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed Drag racing. He loved all of his family and particularly his grandchildren and spending time with them.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of fifty-five years; Betty Cook Pendley of the home; his son; Charles Pendley of Spruce Pine; his daughters; Crystal Howell and husband, Jason of Concord, NC and Carrie Duncan and husband, Jon of Spruce Pine; his sisters; Betty Stamey, Mary Jo Lominac, Shirley Hollifield, Judy Honeycutt, and Carolyn Renfro and husband, Wade all of Spruce Pine; and Patsy Chambers and husband, Jim of Hopkinsville, KY; his grandchildren; Sydney and Luke Howell and Ana and Eryn Duncan; several nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Beaver Creek Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Brandon Pitman and Bobby Joe Greene officiating. Interment will be in the Pendley Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge and Ciji Dellinger for their wonderful love and care of Bobby during his illness.
