Ricky Dale Murphy has been arrested and accused of killing Monica Rathburn, according to Burnsville Police Chief Brian Buchanan. Around 11:30 pm Sunday night, February 28th, Rathburn’s body was found at her home on Green Mountain Drive after Burnsville Police received a call requesting a welfare check. Chief Buchanan said Murphy and Rathburn had been dating. Murphy is being held in the Yancey County Jail. The Burnsville Police, the Yancey County Sheriff’s Department and the State Bureau of Investigation are continuing their investigation.
